This post contains an affiliate link. February 2025 will be my 15th nappiversary! Sometimes I wish I never chemically relaxed my hair but in the 90’s the attraction to make my curly hair straight was strong. What girl doesn’t luv the swish factor? I’m still learning about my hair though. Let’s face it, changes in our hormones can affect our hair. The lock-on effect is that we don’t always achieve our desired styling results. Currently, my hair is fine due to menopause but healthy. I have not chemically bleached or coloured it in roughly two years and I’m regrowing it. Last year, I was using hair care products from three of my favourite brands. Then, just before Christmas, I was invited to an event by Tootilab. I left the event with a swag bag of products to try and I did so. I’m super excited to share, I had the best twist-outs of my life with Tootilab.
The Tootilab Story
Tootilab was founded by Gaia Tonanzi and Julio Quintana, who are on a mission to ‘break the wheel’ and simplify curly hair hair care regimes. The brand was created in 2022 and is based in London. Gaia and Julio’s raison d’etre:
Taking the effort out of curl care, making it easy for anyone to rock their natural texture.
Julio is the driving force behind most of the brand’s green policies. While the brain is behind the formulas. She hosts a Curls Bootcamp based on overall curly hair care on Instagram.

Twist-Out Results
Firstly, on hair wash day, I began with Tootilab’s Gentle Shampoo, then conditioned with their Detangling Conditioner. Secondly, I detangled my hair in the shower. Before applying the Soft Leave-in-Cream, I towel-dried my hair. Finally, I sectioned my hair and applied the All Weather Styling Gel to each section as I two-strand twisted it. I usually wore my hair for 2 -3 days with the two-strand twists in.
The gel sets a firm cast which slowly breaks as the days go but twists stay in place. When I finally untwist my hair, it looks and feels soft, shiny, and springy. Tootilab worked well on my 3B/3C curl type. I had the best twist-outs of my entire 15 years natural.
Now, that I’m on a hair regrowth journey. I am excited to see how my longer twists will look later in the year!
