We are finally having our family bathroom renovated. When we bought our home, the kitchen was in urgent need of repair. We were able to have it renovated with the money we saved on stamp duty. Meanwhile, five years later, we are now ready to tackle the bathroom. The challenge no one tells you about as a homeowner is that if the project is small, you may struggle to find a builder. Thankfully, Hubby is quite good with DIY. Although I would have preferred a professional, we can’t find an affordable builder willing to work on a small bathroom. Hence, this project will be done by Hubby and our next-door neighbour. Honestly, I am not looking forward to the camp showers and the portaloo breaks. I don’t think the previous owners ever updated it. We are switching things up. Our small bathroom makeover will be modern with warm, nature-inspired colours.
Small Bathroom Trends
When we were deciding on our bathroom update, we looked at the 2026 trends. Quite a few fit our taste. Look at the list below; you will notice that you can select a few together to create your desired look.
Some of the popular small bathroom trends include:
- Floating Vanities
- Large Mirrors
- Layered Lightly
- Smart Small Storage
- Statement Tiles
- Sustainable Features
- Warm, Nature-Inspired Colours
- Wet Room Style Showers

Choosing Tiles For A Small Bathroom Makeover
Your tiles can be the backup or the star centre stage. When deciding, we considered how we wanted to feel in the space. For lovers of nature, the only choice was to turn to the natural world, as it always makes us feel relaxed. We bought ours from Victoria Plumbing.
If you want other options, take a look at N&C Tiles; they have new collections, for example, artistic designs inspired by brushstrokes like the Monet Collection. While you will find heritage tones of the Promenade Collection
I wish I had seen the Promenade Colleciton before we ordered our tiles. I am fond of their Dwell range. It has a linear format and an indulgent gloss finish. This style can be used to create herringbone, stacked, or vertical. The palette is comprised of; Warm White Gloss, Terracotta Gloss, Jade Green Gloss, Cobalt Blue Gloss and Black Lava Gloss. This range looks so luxe! They will make any space look upmarket and would work for a small bathroom makeover.
Small Bathroom Makeover
What a difference a year makes. My small bathroom wish list has changed. Initially, I wanted a modern black-and-white look and even briefly contemplated a wet room. After consulting with the kids, we settled on exchanging like for like and including green accents. We went for rustic green for Victoria Plumbing which very much sets the tone of the space. The flooring will have a laminate effect, which will bring it all together without fighting for attention. ChatGPT created the feature image you are seeing for inspiration, but our bathroom will not be entirely like the photo. The tiles we choose will look like the green tiles in the photo.
Our decision is in keeping with the 2026 trend of softer, earthy palettes and moving away from cool shades.
If you need more inpiration in terms of colours, the trending colours for 2026 are:
- Warm white
- Sand and mushroom
- Taupe
- Sage green
- Clay and terracotta accents
- Soft olive
Remember, the idea is to make a small bathroom feel cosy not making smaller.
For us, this is our first major works since the kitchen. Send hope and prayers, because having bucket showers in the current heat we are experiencing in London will not be fun.
