When I was a child 50 seemed like an ole granny age. I dreaded the idea of getting old by the time I hit my 20’s that mind-set shifted. I’m a late bloomer you see. I left home and emigrated to England. My children were born in my late 30’s which meant I labelled an ‘older mum’ due to the ‘geriatric pregnancies’. Parenthood made me lean into womanhood while still holding on to my inner child. I’ve learnt to not take myself too seriously and how to enjoy the small moments. Give a child 10 minutes of your time and they’ll shine. Same goes for me, 10 minutes with a magazine and tea is bliss. Well, last year I turned 50! And I passed a new life milestone.

How I Celebrated My 50th

The day before my birthday my family and I went to The Shard for high tea. At the time they had a Peter Pan theme which was a fitting way to celebrate. After all, Peter Pan is known for never growing up. Our experience at The Shard was superb. Naturally, when you pay for a service you hope to get what you pay for but we all know that’s not always the case. Well, our Peter Pan High Tea was perfection. We had stunning river views of City of London (even from the loo), yummy food and first-rate service.

50 and Fabulous

After The Shard we could just go home. Hubby booked us into Holiday Inn Shepperton. As luck would have it that was the same day that DR Who returned to our screens. The hotel’s corridor to our room was adorned with images from site filming of the series from back in the day along with a range of movies posters.

We had a suite because the kids aren’t old enough to have their own hotel rooms yet but it was just right. I woke into my 50’s in a lovely room with my family and had a scrumptious brekkie.

New Life Milestone More Me

What I know now without a shadow of a doubt, age is only a number. Living my best life and full-filling potential is a must. After the birth of my children, I’ve been sleep-walking through life. Then, menopause caused a shift. It pretty much slapped me in the face and said wake up! Getting to know myself again has been exciting.

Stepping into my 50’s was another shift. I now have a teen and a teen and a preteen; soon they will be doing more on their own and have their own social lives. It was a wakeup call to consider that the next phase of my life would look like. Obliviously, looking after my physical and mental health is top priority but there are other factors. We have settled into our new home. I’ve started this new blog. For sure, the best is yet to come. Watch this space.

Are you in your new life milestone era? Tell me all about it.
