About William and May Morris
William Morris was a designer, poet, artist, writer, and socialist activist who rose to fame in the 19th century. He championed the Arts & Crafts Movement and handmade production. Born on 24th March 1834, Walthamstow. His body of work included furniture, stained glass windows, and textiles, and his designs demonstrated a love of the natural world.
His second daughter, Mary “May” Morris was born on 25 March 1862. She would later follow in her father’s footsteps as a pioneer and activist. She was also artistic and became a designer of embroidery, textiles, wallpaper, and jewellery.
May redefined the “art embroidery” as a serious, professional art form. Additionally, she taught at several art schools and wrote the definitive 1893 guide, Decorative Needlework and founded the Women’s Guild of Arts in 1907 to support women in the industry. In the early 20th century, women were excluded from male-dominated groups.

Bobby Beck William Morris And Modern Maximalissm
James Mellan-Matulewicz, Creative Director, at Bobbi Beck says “Morris’s patterns continue to inspire 160 years on, they resonate with a desire for authenticity and character in interiors that feels just as relevant now as it did then.” By giving these iconic designs a gold twist, the collection presents a fresh perspective on a celebrated legacy, demonstrating how Morris continues to feel relevant in today’s homes. £79.00 per roll
James suggests styling the William Morris Goes Gold collection, aiming for a “Modern Maximalist” aesthetic. Balance the wallpaper’s ornate shimmer with deep, saturated colours. This approach reflects a shift in current interior trends towards a more bold, personality-led decorating, where spaces are designed to tell a story rather than fade into the background.
