I never thought of furniture as being sexy, until I set foot inside Ligne Roset’s store. During London Design Festival 2024, I was invited to view pieces from the re-edit of the French Designer, Pierre Gauriche, designs. Pierre Guariche is just one of the designers in Ligne Roset’s portfolio. All their designers create work that has clean lines and are effortlessly timeless. While the brand Ligne Roset is global, their rasion etre is; ‘Preserving the French craft industry’, as well as, being friendly to the environment. Gauriche’s designs are sleek with a sculptural edge. It was rare treat to visit Ligne Roset’s store on Mortimer Street in London’s westend. Now as autumn is now autuming, I thought should explore sexy seating furniture by Guariche and other designers. As you know, I’m all about the cosy life. So, let’s get cosy and sexy with Ligne Roset.
A Concise History Of Ligne Roset
Ligne Roset is known for their modern and contemporary furniture, the roots of which goes back to 1860. The seed was planted by, Antoine Roset, the great-grandfather of the current directors Pierre and Michel Roset. At age 19, Antoine settled and Oussiat near Pont d’Ain and set up a small factory to make canes for parasols. He pivoted into designing chair legs and frame in the late 19th Century when the demand for ladies’ parasols declined. Then, he swiftly moved on to manufacturing complete chairs.
The business passed from family member to family member to be run. Finally, in 1973, Ligne Roset became an official brand.
Today, they collaborate with more than 70 designers from all over the world and all backgrounds. They’re also committed to having a positive impact on the environment.
Approximately 56% of Ligne Roset’s upholstery waste is recycled. While 92% cabinetry pieces waste are recycled. For example, wood scraps are used to heat their cabinetry factory. Even in their office paper is recycled.
Pierre Guariche Re-Edited At Ligne Roset
2024 was declared the Year of Cosy by Ideal Homes magazine, February 2024. Editor Pip Rich recounts when paint expert, Cassandra Ellis, told him that we all need a room that gave us a hug. I get it. Personally, I’m always in pursuit of a cosy spot. Ligne Roset’s sofas and chairs will make you swoon.
Pierre Guariche’s Jupiter armchair is the statement piece for a contemporary living room. You’ll certainly feel like you’re being nestled. I ‘tested’ one in a vibrant bordeaux shade but the chatain brown is truly decadent to look at.
The armchair is was designed in 1966 as ‘ A seat with a swivelling high back. Inspired by the conquest of space and technical innovations, such as the use of expanded polyurethane, in the service of its ideas, the shapes of Jupiter became a reality….” It’s been described as “The ultimate luxury armchair”.
The Jupiter is available in 10 textures and an astounding 220 colours!
More on Cosy Seating
Speaking of decadent, Vincent Tordman’s Motus Bed settee with 2 arms with 2 lumbar cushions comes in an opulent eggplant (or LIE DE VIN) shade. It has the come-hither factor. Best of all, it easily transitions between sofa and bed with giving comfort in both configurations. ‘In the unfolded position, the depth is identical to that of the bedding: 195 cm. A foam insulator is provided to fit between the slats and the unfolded seat…

The Ploum
Alternatively, the Ploum large settee high-back has organic curves. The high-backed settee was designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Their vision was an organic shape that embodied ‘a sense of generosity and ultimate comfort.’ Its curved lines are fluid and sexy. As a taller person it’s often a challenge to find comfortable seating so I can appreciate its insightful design. I wish I had sat on it but I was too mesmerised by its form.
The Ploum is available in 69 colours! And 6 different fabrics. I saw the stone (or Sable) shade. It also comes in a stunning Rouge and Safir, just to give you an some of the colours. The genius of the Ploum is it:
As per the designers’ wishes, the large settee is asymmetrical in construction: the right-hand backrest is a little higher than the one on the left, whilst the right-hand seat is slightly deeper than the left-hand one and the zip on the rear of the backrest is off-centre.
The seat of the large settee, which may accommodate up to 4 persons, has a slightly closed angle perfect for encouraging sitters to move closer together.
