It’s said in the third trimester of pregnancy mothers go into a nesting phase? Well, I think it missed me. I don’t recall going into a frenzy of cleaning. There was a blip when my son was a toddler. I was still working full time and we had moved to a bigger flat that needed cleaning and decorating. After that the feeling was gone. Then COVID hit. All around the world many us were isolating at home. We all learnt that home is our castle and it’s important to have creature comforts, for good mental health. Enter 2024, I’m on the cusp of personal changes and NOW I think nesting has hit me.
What is nesting?
In the article Nesting during pregnancy/ by Amy Cassell, she says,
Nesting during pregnancy is the act of preparing your home (your “nest”) for your baby’s arrival, often fueled by bursts of energy and a strong desire to clean, organize, and make sure everything is in order. It’s a biological urge shared by humans and other mammals, like birds and dogs, and it’s driven by an innate desire to prepare and protect.
What Nesting Looks like to Me
As I child I moved around between my grandmother’s home and my parents’. When relocated to England in my late 20’s I moved flats a few times until I eventually married. Even then, hubby and I moved house three times until we settled into our current home.
It took two years to truly settle and now our house is our home. In this space that is our home there is comfy and safety. In this phase of my new found nesting, what I plan to achieve is a timeless cosiness with a mix of old and new features and accents. No clutter so there is free flow movement of body and eyes to allow the mind to be clear.
Interior Ideas I’m Exploring
I don’t commit quickly to a single piece, unless it’s stolen my heart; like the £60 cabinet we bought at a furniture charity shop. It’s delightful when the eye wonders and falls upon a piece in the home and it makes you smile. Sentimental? I know but isn’t it wonderful when there’s a story attached to your most loved pieces? Styles that I favour are Cottagecore and Hygge for that soft life experience.
The Pantone Colour for 2024 is Peach Fuzz. It’s a pale soothing pastel peach which can add warmth to our home. For the past 2 years we have had shades of grey and yellow from the double Pantone Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. Peach will make be a refreshing change and it works with the greys, white and black around my home. The hunt is on for cute cushions throws, utensils and the like. Oh and candles too, my new obsession.
How long have you lived in your current home? What do you love the post about it? What would you change if you could?
Comment below, I’d like to hear from you.
