My dad always said, white will always be white. You know what, that’s so true. It’s quick and easy to refresh a white wall; no need to worry about discontinuities due to changes in trend. White can be cohesive, clinical or calming depending on how it’s accessorised. Where once marigold walls were awash in the UK in the 80’s then jewel tones of the 90’s, the 00’s shifted to calm whites. Now, white has extended beyond walls. The Pantone 2020 is Cloud Dancer, and according to Crown Paints, 2It’s a response to interiors — and lives — that feel overstimulated.”. Personally, since there are many grey days in the UK, I like white walls for brightness. Then, add accessories for cosiness. This year, you can choose an aesthetic and decorate using Pantone 2026, Cloud Dancer.

Pantone 11-4201 Cloud Dancer

Pantone says PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer is a “lofty white that serves as a symbol of calming influence in a society rediscovering the value of quiet reflection. A billowy white imbued with serenity …. Cloud Dancer encourages true relaxation and focus, allowing the mind to wander and creativity to breathe, making room for innovation.”

Cloud Dancer is a “key structural colour whose versatility provides scaffolding for the colour spectrum, allowing all colours to shine. In a world where colour has become synonymous with personal expression, this is a shade that can adapt, harmonise, and create contrast, bringing a feeling of airy lightness to all product applications and environments, whether making a standalone statement or combined with other hues.”

New Home White Walls

When we moved into our home, we painted the walls white. We wanted a blank slate. It’s important to us to get used to the space and discover the best way to bring out the full potential. The white walls not only brought light but also quickly revealed where the light hits first and how it affects a room.

For example, our galley kitchen doesn’t catch much sun. We went for white walls, yellow blinds and plates, mugs. The aim was to have a space that was light, bright and joyful. If you are low on funds, with white walls, your utensils and accessories should be the pieces that bring the rooms alive. Colour coordinate your bookshelves, display your tea sets, cosy throws on the sofa or in a basket, and it all brings life to a space that is uniquely yours.

Ways To Use White In Styling Your Home

In 2026, Bobbi Beck Creative Director, James Mellan-Matulewicz, introduces birthstone colours. It’s about “… having fun with colour in a way that feels expressive and self-focused.” Now, if you were born in April, the diamond is your stone. Thinking white diamonds, lean into the quiet elegance of warm white and pale grey. James suggests “a soft, neutral wallpaper works beautifully as a subtle backdrop, adding texture and movement …. Its versatility makes it suitable for any room where you want the atmosphere to feel light and calm.”

Bonus Tip: For a modern glam bedroom, sprinkle in touches with glass, sequins, and glittery accents.

Nature

This will not be the last time I mention nature here. I grew up in a time when Sessions paints in Trinidad had a range called ‘nature whites’ who knew there could be so many interpretations of white?! I like that Dulux has a selection of whites and neutrals  inspired similarly by nature. We always have a pot of Dulux One Coat Pure Brilliant White Matt Emulsion paint, from the Simply Refresh collection. It’s a quick and easy way to improve a drab area with child prints or cooking splashes. It can also be used if your current room colour is a pale colour you want to quickly

Bring the outside in by including natural elements for a pop of colour, fresh or dried flowers and foliage, rattan, bamboo, faux fur to suit the white spaces you want, whether it’s bohemian, afrohemian, cottagecore or poetcore inspired aesthetic

Tech & Modern

Since the noughties, modern styling introduced sleek, clutter-free interiors. Eventually, it shifted from hard geometric shapes and edges to curve appeal with rounded edges and shapes. Whether you want angles or curves, whites in modern spaces equate to calm.

Lick says, “Minimalist design built around calm, expansive whites isn’t about deprivation. It’s about creating space for what matters: natural light, quality materials, pieces you actually love, and the mental clarity that comes from not being visually overwhelmed every time you walk into a room.” Their take on modern décor style fits perfectly with Cloud Dancer Pantone 2026
