Did you know there’s a gem of a Turkish restaurant in Chingford?! We visited for the second time recently. The food was just as good as the first time. It’s rare to dine at a restaurant within a two-year interval and the food is still so good! Hubby and I went with our kids to celebrate his birthday and we went all out. The joy of visiting Gokyuzu is not just the food but the ambiance and the service. The sun always shines when we dine at there. Gokyuzu authentic Turkish cuisine Chingford, North London, is the best
The Story Behing Gokyuzu Authentic Turkish Cuisine
Gokyuzu Restaurant Chingford was the second branch to be opened. There are now five other branches around London. Inspired by the cuisine of their childhood in Kahramanmaras (a small village near the Mediterranean in Turkey), the Yarzu family brought that taste to London. Expect grills, freshly baked breads and more. Gokyuzu authentic Turkish cuisine makes you feel as though can practically taste the sunshine.
The Chingford branch has huge glass windows that allow the restaurant to be flooded with light during the day. I imagine on a clear night depending where you sat, stars might be visible. All around there are blue potted bay leaf and other green plants and at your feet beautiful Moroccan-style tiles. The ambiance makes you feel like you’re on a Mediterranean holiday.
What We Ate At Gokyuzu
We are no shy eaters, the waiter had to double check… ‘so that’s 6 desserts?’ And that was AFTER our Family Jumbo Platter for main! First came the cold meze followed by the platter stacked with hot juicy succulent grilled meat. The meats comprised of: Lamb Shish, Chicken Shish, Adana Kebab. Lamb Ribs. Chicken Wings. Lamb Chops and Mixed Doner.
Then! Let me tell you about the puddings: Kunefe (Sweet Cheese Pastry) topped pomegranate and pistachio and cream Sutlac (rice pudding) and warm Baklava with ice cream. Yes, we ate a lot but we didn’t feel bloated that’s how you know it’s good food Our bill was hefty but we ate a lot and it was hubby’s birthday after all.
The Yavuz Family recommends: Try their Turkish pizza, or pide. Choose from traditional lahmacun, an extremely thin pizza topped with minced lamb, parsley and peppers or Kuşbaşılı Pide (topped with diced lamb and peppers). Alternatively, the vegetarian option is Kaşarlı Pide (with mozzarella, peppers, olives)
