Since Covid there has been a global shift to prioritising being ‘present’ in our lives, honing the art of noticing. We’ve been inspired to create our castle, a haven in our homes. Thinking of my special place in my home, I wanted to encourage friends, family, and readers to share their special/safe space. Perhaps it might inspire you to create a sacred space if you don’t already have one.
I’ve named this feature, Kumbla because it conjures up my idea of a sacred space. The word ‘kumbla’ comes from the work of Erna Brodber, Jamaican writer (sociologist and social activist), entitled Jane and Louisa Will Soon Come Home:

“The image of the kumbla derives in this novel from a popular Anancy story in which Anancy dupes Dryhead into believing that he is surrendering all of his sons to him by telling his son Tucuma … Anancy’s whole career has been one of spinning “fine white cocoons” (124), creating kumblas “designed to protect for generations”.

Hello March! Spring has sprung. The parks are busy with joggers, dog walkers, and parents with tiny tots. On the topic of tiny tots, last year I met Jemimah, Digital Content Creator, at George ASDA’s 10th birthday party. She attended with her darling baby boy. Instantly, I felt broody. If you know me, you’ll know that doesn’t often happen. Jemimiah is based in Northamptonshire an area I am fond of. My family and I spent a Christmas Northamptonshire a few years ago.

I digress, Jemimah got me thinking; what space is special (sacred) to a mum tiny tot? Jemimah says:

I have a fav corner at home. It has family photos of my special memories. Each time I walk past it reminds me of those who are important around me.

You can find Jeminah on Instagram @Simply_Jemimah She shares content on days out with children and funny couples’ sketches.

Do you have family photos in your home? What do they remind you of? Comment below.
