February marked my 14th nappiversary !! Over that period, I went from postpartum to menopausal. My hair has been through it. Still, I never regretted returning to my natural texture hair. The best reward was not worrying about my hair getting wet. I’ve learned to care better for my natural hair and to embrace its limitations. For example, my hair will never be thick. Therefore, to counteract that I’ve learnt tips on how to make it appear fuller. In the past 14 years, I’ve tried many products. Some were hits and others were misses. Transitioning to natural textured hair isn’t for the faint-hearted. You need a support system and good-quality products to get you through it. Thinking of my hair journey, I’ve created a gift list for newbie curlies. Whether they are transitioning or newly natural, here are my curlfriends Christmas gifts picks.

Starter Kits For Curfriends Christmas Gifts

When transitioning your hair, it’s easier to have products already selected for you. Simply choose a starter pack, and off you go. No list of mine would be complete without Boucleme. It was the first British brand to create products that worked well on my fine hair.

Boucleme’s Starter Kit is great for waves, curls, and coils (RRP £35).  It contains:

  • Hydrating Hair Cleanser
  • Curl Conditioner
  • Curl Cream
  • Curl Defining

Each bottle has 100ml of product.

If your hair is curly or coily the Curlsmith Moisture Discover Kit (RRP £57) contains all you need to cleanse and style your twist out However, if the hair is part chemically relaxed and part natural try the Curlsmith Curl Transition Discovery Kit. Where natural hair grows into relaxed is the weakest. Choose products to strengthen and keep hair moisturised. The Transition Discovery Box contains specually selected products from the Curlsmith’s Moisture Recipe range.

Subscription box brand Treasure Tress has a ‘build your own’ option (RRP £55). Create a box thoughtful box with different products to help your friend build on their product knowledge.

BONUS: No, it’s not a kit BUT it’s in a box. If your curlfriend likes to travel Curlsmith’s Portable Defrizzion Dryer is a winner (RRP £109) on Lookfanstastic.

DIY Care Package For Curlfriends Christmas Gifts

Finally, if you know your curlfriend’s hair type you can make a hamper. Making your hamper allows you to fill the basket with cute things like hair clips, combs, brushes, and a variety of hair care products.

Firstly, I suggest including a silk (satin) lined beanie, and/or a satin pillow case, and/or a satin bonnet. They will last for years and years longer than the hair care products.

Boucleme has a beautiful selection of cashmere-blend silk-lined beanies  (RRP £37) in a range of colours. It’s ideal for keeping curls frizz-free. One size with dimensions: 240mm height, 220mm length, 30mm depth.

UK Influencer turned entrepreneur Shannon, UK Curly Girl, has a range of satin products. The 2 in 1 reversible pillowcase  (RRP £60) is genius especially if curlfriend rocks extra-long braids (or faux locs)  It doubles as a bonnet!

No curlfriends christmas gifts hamper would be complete without at least one of these. In terms of washday and midweek styling products brands like Mielle, As I Am and Palmer’s are good and easy to find on the high street. Additionally, there’s the British brand, Kurl Kitchen. Fleur and Keshia East with a formula expert, developed the collection. The sisters drew upon their Ghanaian heritage to select ingredients known for healthy hair benefits. It’s an effective collection with a unisex botanical fragrance. Kurl Kitchen makes hair look and feel hydrated. Kurl Kitchen makes curls pop. It is sold in Boots and on the Kurl Kitchen website.

Last but not least there’s Sheabutter Cottage and Natural Barnet. They are also British brands but you purchase online.
