New year time for a reset! We jumped in legs first into refreshing the master bedroom. It was daunting to commit to a colour. Interiors have trends like fashion. So, what colour could I choose that would last for years? In the end, I leaned into my personality and what I love. Being my authentic self means feeling free, a wanderlust lover of nature. I’ve never liked an overly feminine bedroom. Seeing hubby surrounded by frills and fluff wouldn’t rock my boat. I settled on a modern boho aesthetic. We popped into B&Q and bought a pot of Dulux One Coat Decadent Damson Matt Emulsion . The pot sat in a cupboard for almost a year. Finally, on New Year’s Eve 2025, hubby painted our feature wall. After New Year’s Day, I began decorating. This is what I’ve learnt about styling a modern Bohemian bedroom.
The Formula For A Modern Bohemian Bedroom
Balance is important when styling a modern Bohemian bedroom. It’s easy to get carried away and end up with a room that looks like a psychedelic fever dream. The formula to have a grown-up space is:
- Building a colour palette (but limit the bold ones)
- Incorporating organic textures
- Adding statement accents (wall art, woven baskets, artisanal pieces)
- Remember, restraint is key
Too may bold or deep colours could make a room look smaller. Be brave, mix materials, but not styles. Furniture should be clean and modern and you will be rewarded with the cosy bedroom of your dreams.
Bonus Tip: Even if you are not a plant parent yet, try good quality faux ones
Our Bohemian Rhapsody
When we moved into our home we painted the all the rooms white. Our daugther kicked started the feature wall movement in our home because she felt the white was too clinical. She chose a gorgeous deep green for her feature wall a couple years ago. Recently, hubby turned our attention to our bedroom. The only change to our room was a new carpet. Since the walls were white and the carpet was grey I tried to create a country coastal look.
After the boho look settled, I began to busily pin ideas to my Pinterest boards . At the tim, I thought I’d go for a terracotta to add warmth to the room. Although many days in England can be grey and the warm terracotta seemed like a nice, safe, on shopping day, the damson called to me.
Still, when the first stroke struck across the white wall, my breath caught in my throat. Did we make the right decision? Would the damson be too dark? Once it was completed, we were both thrilled with the results. The master bedroom is a decent size so the deep shade gave it depth. Coincidence or fate, I saw on Instagram the other day that purple was a ‘lucky’ colour for Sagittarius in 2026.
We kept the cost to a minimum by repurposing items around the house. Cubed shelves with rounded edges from our daughter’s room (she now has the bookcase she wanted), a magazine rack and faux foliage from the living room. Then, I retrieved a mini rattan shelf from the conservatory. We bought it years ago at a charity shop. We already had fairy lights and a rattan tray in the bedroom. Finally, I located an old canvas art I bought years ago for flat lay content creation. It’s now mounted on a side wall. We haven’t committed to wall art on the feature wall yet.
The Result: we now have a cosy-maxxed bedroom. It’s a cocoonish, intimate vibe at night. We love it! In the daytime, the deep jewel tone breaks up the white space.
