My mantra as a blogger is ‘ever day is a content day’. Albeit there are a few no go areas. I made a commitment to myself and my family years over a decade ago. The no go areas in my content creation are; my marriage and anything that’s too personal about my children. I’d like to think I’ve kept that vow. Now that I’ve moved away from parenting content and pivoted into home, lifestyle and travel content creation with Xpat At Home, my family have their privacy. I am my own subject now. Vain much? Let’s say I’m always in pursuit of the next eye-catching selfie and lifestyle shots, ever day is a content day.

Content Day

Many of my friends and readers are amazed that I’ve kept up my content creation all these years. I love my mobile phone. The only time it’s not with me is bathroom time and bed time. Having such a powerful gadget that has immediate access to camera, internet and editing applications is inviting. Honestly, during the grimmer days of postnatal depression, it made me look for an focus on any bit of beauty in my existence.

Nowadays, I check the weather, becasue prefer to work with natural lighting, then refer to my content list. At the start of the year I create a list of topics I want to touch on. using Pinterest for reference. However, for unscripted work, being out in nature is theraputic and provides a variety of subjects. Food is another good one. It’s probably one of the easiest topical content to capture. No need to over think. Don’t fortiget even the ‘bad’ videos and behind the scenes is also content. If all else fails have a shower, a bath or swim and the ideas will float up into your consciousness.

If something catches my eye during the course of the day, I’ll take a photo. Even though I may have no immediate need for it. Sometimes it’s the beauty of light filtering through the trees on a Sunday walk or through the blinds into the dining room. Out and about in London, spot thought provoking public art… another favourite scene I enjoy capturing is that 10 minutes in time when I’m reading and the book or magazine is angled a particular way. OH! How can I forget showcasing the first sign in the change of season? Basically, I enjoy taking photos.

The Equipment

I don’t’ have a lot of gear at the moment. Usually, if we are going on a day out and plan to capture the highlights as a family, Hubby brings our Osmo camera and RODE speaker. However, if I’m on my attending a press event or product launch, along with my mobile I usually pack a selfie-light. They fit easily in my handbag or carrier bag which is perfect because 9 times out of 10 I’m commuting.

Let me tell you running around London from point A to B is no easy feat with paper bags and cotton bags containing products. Best of all, having everything one places makes it easier to take snaps on the go.
