I went from a geriatric pregnancy to being an older mum, straight into perimenopause. Those stages affected my hair due to the hormonal changes. After baby number 2, the hair at my temples was almost GONE! It was distressing, but this was 2012, and Black Jamaican castor oil challenges were a thing. Slowly, my hair recovered, but the hair at my temples never filled out entirely. I made peace and worked with what I had. THEN I noticed the hair at my crown was thinning 3 years ago. So, I cut my hair to have a break from constant styling. Then, in autumn 2025, I decided to grow out my afro. Sadly, the thinning issue remained. Enter my updated self-care regimen with supplements. I added Pumpkin Seed Oil with Saw Palmetto to my supplement intake. After one month on Pumpkin Seed Oil, I noticed my hairline was growing.
Benefits of Pumpkin Seed Oil
Pumpkin seed oil is used as a nutritional supplement. It’s a natural source of proteins, essential fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, omega-3, 6 and 9, carotenes, lutein, vitamins, trace elements and more. One study in 2014 found pumpkin seeds helped with hair growth for participants with pattern hair loss.
PSA: It is usually advised that supplements be used as part of a healthy diet, not a replacement. Before making changes to your diet or lifestyle, seek advice from your GP or specialist if you have a health concern or are taking medication.
Bloom & Bond Pumpkin Seed Oil with Palmetto Saw
I was sent a two-month supply of Bloom & Bond’s Pumpkin Seed Oil with Palmetto Saw to try. As my hair growth journey is in full swing, pumpkin seed oil capsules were incorporated into my Omega and collagen intake without any side effects.
Bloom & Bond Promise: no lifetime dependency, reduces hair shedding, supports hair growth, DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) Defence.
DHT is an androgen, a hormone derived from testosterone, which can cause hair follicles to shrink, leading to hair loss. For women, during and after menopause, declining oestrogen levels remove the protective barrier around hair follicles, allowing dihydrotestosterone (DHT) to cause hair follicle miniaturisation.
Taking Bloom & Bond’s Pumpkin Seed Oil with Saw Palmetto can help with this. Saw Palmetto is a berry-like fruit that comes from a type of palm. It is known to be an inhibitor of DHT creation.
My Results
I began taking Bloom & Bond’s Pumpkin Seed Oil with Saw Palmetto in late spring. I included it in my moderately active self-care regimen with supplements. I started with one capsule per day for a couple of weeks. Eventually, I switched to the recommended daily dose of two capsules. The capsules do not have a taste or oily burps after digestion. Additionally, I didn’t notice any side effects. After the end of the fourth week, honestly, I was amazed at the results!
Suddenly, one day I realised that when I styled my hair in an afro puff, the hair at my temples was less scanty. Now, I can’t stop looking at my hairline every morning. The little hairs are slowly coming through, and that gives me more confidence to style my hair in updos now. My last bottle will take me until the end of August. Here’s hoping by the 1st anniversary of my hair growth journey my hairline will look even better. Be sure to follow me on Instagram so see how my hair journey progresses
