Before I got married, I lived in a variety of shared accommodation which meant the bedroom was my only non-shared private space. When I was dating (my now hubby) a long lazy weekend tucked away in my room was a treat. 20 years later married with kids once again the bedroom has become a haven. Mercifully, our kids are FINALLY pass night terrors and impromptu midnight visits to our bedroom. It’s got me thinking Hubby and I could do with a bedroom update. What we have at the moment is basic with essentials no frills. It’s time to bring back the romance. I want a bedroom update that creates a romantic haven for us.

Current Bedroom Set-Up

Our master bedroom is a large double with sufficient space for our super king bed. The window south-facing looking out onto houses on the other side of our road. It’s the first room to catch the morning light which is gorgeous on a sunny day. The rays bounce off of the mirrors on the floor to ceiling built-in wardrobe. Thankfully, we live on a tree-lined peaceful street. Sunday mornings are bliss.

The walls in our bedroom like everywhere else in our home are white. Though, our daughter has given me an idea. She wanted a feature wall in her bedroom. She chose a rich deep green and it looks good! Therefore, I’m going to borrow a page from her book, so to speak. Drawing inspiration from this year’s Pantone colour ‘Peach Fuzz’ Hubby and I are thinking of a warm peach or pale terracotta for our feature wall! We already have peach touches in our spring living room restyle, so, it will all tie in.

Bedroom Update Plan

Peach walls give options of a boho, modern or country vibe. If there is such a thing as ‘modern country’ aesthetic, I think that will suit us. We are going after a timeless look. According to interiors expert at Bobbi Beck, James Mellan-Matulewicz you can create a romantic retreat by focusing on softness, ambiance, and indulgence. Well, throws, pillows and candles are my jam. In addition to soft and sensual bedding in materials such as silks or Egyptian cottons, James suggests:

Fairy Lights- Illuminate your space with the warm glow of fairy lights and soft lighting. Drape fairy lights around the room and the bed, creating a whimsical and enchanting ambiance.

Candles & Diffusers- scented candles in romantic fragrances like vanilla, lavender, or rose. Alternatively, use essential oil diffusers for a subtle and continuous release of inviting aromas Avoid candles and diffusers with a heavy use of synthetic fragrances as these can often be overwhelming.

VALENTINES TIP: Level up by incorporate fresh flowers in colours that complement your bedroom décor, bring in the ice bucket for the champs. Don’t forget the matching dressing grown and slippers!
We don’t have a set timeline to begin our bedroom update BUT it’s happening this year. Watch this space. In the meantime, we’ll be charity shop trawling for cute pieces.

Obliviously, we are still in the planning phase BUT it’s happening this year. Watch this space. In the meantime, we’ll be charity shop trawling for cute pieces.
