February half-term school break is a welcome respite but the weather can be so dreary! Still, if there’s a day that’s not too wet, I go out in the garden and potter around. Usually, from early November, I leave the garden to the creatures great and small. Come February, I asses what needs doing in preparation for Spring. There might be the odd DIY that Hubby will do. Recently, I discovered some bulbs I bought from Wilko before it closed down. The bulbs were meant to be planted in October but I forgot. They had begun to sprout in the packet. Rather than waste them, I popped the blubs into pots of soil. Hopefully the bulbs will bloom in time for Spring. Rookie error but I learn as I go along. I’ve got three additional jobs to complete in our North facing garden for February.

Planted Pots For North Facing Garden

Our patio and garden space was divided by an ole wooden fence. It annoyed me how the fence broke up my view of the garden from our galley kitchen. Last year, we finally removed the fence, now the eyes can wonder and dance all the way down to the back of the garden. My idea this year is to add more potted plants to replace the fence. I’m hoping for the optical illusion that the garden starts from the edge of the patio. Additionally,  at the end of the garden next to the shed I want more potted plants.

This year I want the garden to be vibrant and full of colour to attract butterflies and bees.

Deadhead & Trim Plants

Now, I thought I had cut back my lavender and deadhead the last of the summer blooms last year. Then, recently I went into the garden some plants looked worse for wear rather than ready to sprout new leaves. So, I’ll be cutting back the small lavender plants and the rose bush. One of the rose bushes has rosehips but I’ll leave those for the birds.

4 in 1 Unwin flower seeds

Persistent rain caused some of the bedding plants leaves to go soggy and brown. Those dead soggy leaves will be removed.  Fingers crossed the top soil will get more sun and air. Then, seeds that were planted near to the bedding plans will have more space to sprout.

Planting Seeds

When I popped the tulip bulbs in the ground it got me thinking that seeds I sew as well. ASDA came up trumps. I bought a packet of Unwins 4 in 1 scented flowers for pots. So along with buying plants for the patio, to keep the cost down, I’ll also grown my own flowers as well. The packet contains Lavender (my personal fave), Virginian Stocks, Wallflowers and Nigella.

The Lavender has to be planted in February. However, the other needs are for March planting.

An Add-on Job For North Facing Garden

Now doesn’t love a before and after patio clean inspiration from Insta. Last year we bought Karcher K3 ! It comes with different heads. You can use it to clean the patio, the trampoline and cars. I’m telling you it worked wonders for our patio which was dark and mossy. Before I bring in the new potted plants for the patio, we’ll give it a good clean to brighten of the area and the garden stepping stones for in time for Spring.
